24/7 Care When It’s Needed MostThanks to the latest technology, your loved one will always have an extra level of care When your loved one receives critical care, she benefits from critical care nurses and specially educated physicians (called intensivists) at her bedside. At the Center for Critical Care, your loved one will also benefit by having a “tele-intensivist.”From a high-tech, off-site control room called the advanced Intensive Care Unit (aICU), a tele-intensivist uses high-resolution video, audio and electronic charting to monitor critically ill patients. This specially educated physician interacts closely with caregivers at the bedside and responds immediately to any concerns. Thanks to this advanced technology, our tele-intensivists can even talk to other doctors, nurses and family members inside a patient’s room. This technology tracks everything from breathing and heart rate to laboratory results, providing round-the-clock intensive care. It also eliminates much of the bedside paperwork, freeing caregivers at the bedside to spend more time with your loved one. Tele-intensivists do not replace bedside care. The Center for Critical Care continues to have the same number of physicians and critical care nurses at the bedside. Instead, it provides an added and higher layer of care to help detect problems earlier and provide faster treatment. This, in turn, reduces complications, shortens hospital stays and saves lives.
